Positive interactions and trust between the police and the communities they serve are key to effective crime reduction and keeping the peace. That’s why DCAF, in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency, has been supporting the Honduran National Police to update their community policing operations model. This model improves the ability of officers to respond to local needs, and brings together the police and the community to jointly create security arrangements at the national level and in local neighbourhoods. 19 Mar 2024This week, we gathered national authorities, civil society, and international partners in Chisinau for a multi-stakeholder roundtable and the launch of the Independent Report on Security Sector Governance in the country. Spearheaded by DCAF and the Platform for Security and Defense Initiatives, the report, written by civil society experts, provides a comprehensive analysis of the security sector landscape in Moldova. It evaluates previous reforms with the aim of stimulating constructive dialogue between governments, civil society, and citizens to strengthen democratic practices in the security sector and contribute to a better management of risks and threats.
18 Mar 2024We were honored recently to sign a new framework agreement with the Lebanese Armed Forces to continue supporting their civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives. This work includes providing expertise to help develop polices and practices in the Armed Forces that will strengthen the relationship between security providers and citizens, especially in conflict-affected communities. This work is made possible thanks to the generous contributions of the Netherlands.
DCAF's headquarters team recently visited our field office in Kyiv for a series of productive meetings with our key partners on how we can best support Ukraine’s SSG/R initiatives. On the agenda were security sector reforms related to EU membership negotiations, building integrity and preventing corruption across the sector, and protecting the human rights of security sector personnel during the current war. We have been supporting Ukraine on SSG/R processes for several years. Following the attack by Russia, we have, among other things, trained soldiers on how to gather evidence of war crimes, and advised officials on improvements to the country’s military justice system.
